Mama Daisy

Daisy Simmonds, affectionately known by names such as 'Mama Daisy', 'Mama D', 'Grandma Daisy', Miss Daisy', 'Cousin Daisy', and 'Auntie Daisy', was born on November 27th, 1935 to Ali Simmonds and Ivy Scarlett in Watt Town, St. Ann, Jamaica.

Daisy was a virtuous and independent woman who used her various skills to take care of herself and her family. She was a seamstress who also had a small restaurant and a grocery shop in Cave Valley where many knew her for the delicious meals she served.

Sister Daisy was blessed with nine children, one of whom pre-deceased her. Her children, grandchildren, and the rest of her family can testify of the various ways that she touched each and every life with her time, care, and words of wisdom. We proudly confirm that she was not only our mother, she was our best friend. We would often say that we need not worry about a thing because we knew Mama was praying for us.

She adored her God and we are fully convinced that the roads to Heaven rose up to meet her, that the wind was always at her back and that God has held her in the hollow of His hands.

May her soul rest in peace and may light perpetually shine upon her.

In Loving Memory of Mama Daisy
